Software Engineer III, Backend at Primer.io

At Primer we build the single platform that gives finance teams clear visibility and precise control over global transactions, and the Orchestration team is the engine that makes those promises reliable no matter the provider, method, or market.

The opportunity

As a Software Engineer III on the Backend team you will own the systems that route, authenticate, and recover payments at scale. Your work sits at the heart of our product, turning complex orchestration logic into dependable services that our customers trust with real revenue. You will report to the Engineering Manager for Orchestration and help shape how the entire layer evolves.

A day in the life

• You take a feature from an initial scoping discussion all the way through design, implementation, monitoring, and rollout, keeping teammates updated on progress and risks without needing reminders.
• You design and ship backend services that handle live payment volume, focusing on reliability, clear error handling, and performance that holds up under growth.
• You join architecture conversations, present proposals to the engineering council, and participate in code reviews that raise the quality bar for the whole team.

Who you are

You bring solid backend engineering experience and can turn ambiguous requirements into production-ready software with minimal oversight. You understand distributed-systems fundamentals and know how to build services that stay observable and resilient when things go wrong. You are comfortable with REST APIs and the patterns that make them dependable. You have owned work end to end before, including monitoring, rollout, and post-deployment support. You enjoy contributing to architecture discussions and can advocate for simple, maintainable designs. Experience in payments or fintech is helpful but not required; depth of engineering thinking matters most. You are fluent in English and ready to collaborate across a fully remote, globally distributed team.
