Software Engineer II - Data Platform at Abnormal Security

At Abnormal Security, we provide cloud-based solutions that help enterprises of every size defend themselves against sophisticated cybercrime. Our applications are highly data-intensive, which means they rely on secure, scalable, and dependable data access to function effectively. Our Data Platform team is the engine behind this, facilitating efficient data processing for both real-time and offline systems. We are currently searching for a Software Engineer II to join us in Canada to help build the next generation of our data infrastructure. This is a full-time, on-site role where you will have the autonomy to shape your career path, whether you aspire to become a Senior Software Engineer or a founding member of a future team.

Key outcomes

• Develop and maintain robust online and offline data platform services across AWS and Azure environments to support our internal engineering teams.
• Enhance the performance of our existing systems, including Spark for offline processing and databases like Kafka and ElasticSearch for online operations, to ensure maximum efficiency.
• Act as a technical resource by providing guidance and support to other engineering groups as they utilize our data systems.
• Scale our data center capacity by architecting advanced analytics software that introduces automation and improves overall operational efficiency.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience working as a back-end software developer.
• A solid background in software engineering with a commitment to writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Proven experience in building and managing distributed systems within high-scale environments.
• Proficiency in, or a strong desire to learn, our primary technology stack, which includes Python, Golang, Django, Celery, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and OpenSearch, alongside cloud infrastructure tools like AWS, Azure, and Terraform.
• Fluency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience working within a Platform, Developer Experience, or Infrastructure team where you served the needs of multiple internal engineering stakeholders.
• Demonstrated expertise in at least one core area of our data stack, such as relational databases, RocksDB, ElasticSearch, Redis, Kafka, or Spark.
