What is this role?

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Database Team in our Amsterdam office. This is a full-time, hybrid position designed for an experienced engineer who wants to take ownership of significant parts of our system. You will be instrumental in shaping our hybrid execution paths and ensuring our platform performs well at scale.

What will you do?

• Take ownership of major projects within our dual execution stack to enable seamless query processing between local environments and the cloud.
• Design and build a cloud platform that dynamically manages resources to ensure DuckDB remains efficient, whether handling small tasks or massive 1 TB RAM instances.
• Collaborate across our frontend, infrastructure, and platform teams to ensure our users have a cohesive and high-performance experience.

What makes you a great fit?

You are a seasoned engineer who has successfully shipped complex backend systems. We are looking for someone who brings the following skills and qualities:

• Fluency in systems languages such as C++ or Rust, with a comfort level for working close to the metal.
• A deep understanding of query engines, indexing, execution plans, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure and building low-latency distributed systems.
• The ability to lead projects that involve multiple collaborators and cross-functional dependencies.
• A commitment to clear design, thoughtful tradeoffs, and mentoring peers to foster a high-agency environment.
• Professional proficiency in English.
