Software Engineer, Data at Butter

The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a focus on data to join our engineering team. You will bridge the gap between data engineering and backend development to build robust, data-heavy applications that provide direct value to our customers. In this role, you will be responsible for creating systems where data management is a first-class concern, ensuring that our applications can handle complex information while maintaining simplicity and scalability. You will be a key player in shaping our architecture and helping us recover millions of dollars in revenue for our clients.

A day in the life

• You will design and build backend applications that interface with various disparate APIs and external data sources.
• You will develop and maintain flexible, client-facing APIs that standardize data in a clean and consistent manner.
• You will orchestrate complex workflows using modern technologies like Temporal and AWS Step Functions.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience spanning both data and software engineering. You are comfortable working in a remote environment and communicating effectively in English. Your background includes the following:

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• A proven track record of writing and operating software in production environments.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs.
• Experience with API design and state machine architectures is considered a significant plus.
