Software Engineer - Backend at Meroxa

We are building the real-time data infrastructure that lets any developer connect, transform, and stream data in minutes instead of months. As a senior backend engineer on a fully remote team, you will design and operate the distributed systems that power our platform and the internal tools that keep every engineer shipping safely and quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate highly available microservices that emphasize resiliency, security, and performance at scale.
• Own the full software development lifecycle-from planning and design through testing, deployment, and ongoing support-while making architectural decisions that balance customer value and long-term maintainability.
• Create and maintain the internal tooling and platforms other engineers rely on for monitoring, debugging, and safe deployments.
• Collaborate with teammates, technical partners, and the open-source community to solve complex problems at both the application and systems level.
• Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to a culture of feedback, inclusion, and engineering excellence.

Must-haves

• Several years of professional software engineering experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Node.js, Ruby, or Java, plus the ability to learn new languages quickly.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles that produce extensible, reusable code.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize simple and scalable solutions, and deliver customer value without unnecessary complexity.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills and a track record of earning trust across teams and levels.
• Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with Go or Kubernetes.
• Background in data infrastructure, streaming platforms, or serverless technologies.
• Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.
