Software Engineer Backend at Class

We now invite an experienced backend engineer to join our development team in Hawthorn, Melbourne, on a full-time hybrid basis.

Key outcomes

• Design, build and support secure, scalable RESTful and gRPC APIs that power web, mobile and other client applications.
• Take part in Agile ceremonies-sprint planning, daily stand-ups and retrospectives-to deliver incremental value.
• Collaborate on solution architecture, ensuring new services align with business objectives and established design patterns.
• Write clean, maintainable code in .NET 5 through 8, applying appropriate testing, code review and continuous-integration practices.
• Protect data integrity and application security by following relevant standards and performing regular security assessments.
• Strengthen team culture through constructive feedback, knowledge sharing and a commitment to collective success.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• More than three years of hands-on software-development experience with production-grade systems.
• Proficiency in .NET 5/6/7/8, Controllers or Minimal APIs, Entity Framework Core, LINQ and T-SQL on SQL Server.
• Practical experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with distributed version control (Git).
• Strong analytical and debugging skills within Visual Studio, coupled with the ability to resolve complex issues methodically.
• Proven capacity to collaborate within cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred qualifications

• Familiarity with Fast Endpoints, gRPC, microservices architecture, Okta or Auth0, Docker containers and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests and exposure to front-end frameworks such as React or Next.js.
