350.org is dedicated to building a global grassroots movement aimed at solving the climate crisis. We operate through online campaigns, organizing, and public actions led by thousands of volunteers across more than 188 countries. Our organization functions as a laboratory for climate activism, leveraging digital tools to facilitate strategic, real-world change. We are currently seeking a hands-on Software Developer to join our Product Team. This role reports to the Associate Director of Organising and Networks and focuses on creating the tools necessary to empower our staff and supporters to achieve maximum impact.
Key outcomes
- Develop front-end solutions using HTML5, CSS, and modern JavaScript.
- Design and build templates that allow campaigners to easily launch petitions and other digital tactics.
- Provide expert guidance on product design, tool selection, and effective digital tactics.
- Lead initiatives related to web accessibility and usability to ensure our platforms serve all users.
- Offer daily technical support to our organizers and campaigners.
- Create prototypes and standalone experiments using a variety of platforms and technologies.
- Collaborate closely with designers and campaign staff to build strong working relationships and successful project outcomes.
- Manage data collection workflows to ensure information is organized, useful, and accessible to stakeholders.
- Simplify and automate processes to reduce the administrative workload for our campaign teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar software development role.
- Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS/SCSS/Sass, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with React, Node, and WordPress/PHP.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and templating tools such as Django, PHP, or Liquid.
- Knowledge of Python and core web security practices including CORS, JWT, and XSS.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to work remotely within 5 hours of the GMT timezone.
- Legal authorization to work in your country of residence, as we cannot provide visa sponsorship.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Salesforce development or backend development in JS or Python.
- Background in project or product management.
- Proficiency with SQL and database management.
- Knowledge of web analytics tools like GA4 and GTM, as well as A/B testing methodologies.
- Experience with messaging platforms such as Twilio.
- A strong understanding of how technology supports activism and prior experience with grassroots or progressive organizations.
- Experience implementing web accessibility best practices and working on cross-disciplinary projects.
- Fluency in additional languages.
Compensation
We offer a remote work environment as a primary benefit. For those based in the United States, this position is part of the 350PWU bargaining unit and is subject to the terms of our collective bargaining agreement. Additionally, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our employees are eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
