Senior/Staff Back-end Engineer at Arbor

What you bring

We are a lean engineering group building the backend infrastructure for an intelligent electricity marketplace. In this full-time remote role you will design and operate production systems that track utility rates, orchestrate supplier matching, and power real-time optimization across deregulated energy markets. Your three core responsibilities will be to create scalable backend services, manage cloud infrastructure on GCP with Terraform, and integrate external utility and supplier APIs. The position is open to candidates located anywhere.

• Design and build scalable backend services that power our core marketplace platform
• Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure on GCP using Terraform, ensuring reliability and cost efficiency as we scale
• Build integrations with utility data sources, supplier APIs, and third-party services across multiple energy markets

Requirements

We are looking for engineers who bring at least five years of hands-on experience shipping production backend systems at scale. You should have strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with Node.js as your primary backend framework and familiarity with Nest.js considered a plus. Hands-on experience operating cloud environments, especially on GCP, along with proven Terraform skills for infrastructure-as-code, is essential. Comfort working with SQL databases, ideally Postgres, and designing robust APIs and asynchronous processing patterns will help you succeed. We value candidates who actively use AI coding tools, move quickly in ambiguous environments, and maintain high standards for code quality. Experience or genuine interest in energy, climate technology, or marketplace products is a strong advantage. English fluency is required.
