At Clear Ballot, we are working to modernize the way elections are conducted in the United States. As the first new entrant in the voting technology industry in three decades, we are dedicated to creating secure, transparent, and reliable systems that empower voters and election officials alike. We believe that by building better technology, we can help restore confidence in the democratic process. Our team thrives on collaboration, and we are looking for passionate individuals who want to help us turn this vision into a reality.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Senior or Principal Software Engineer to join our full-time team. This is a hybrid role that requires a combination of remote work and time spent in our offices located in either Boston, Massachusetts, or Nashua, New Hampshire. You will be joining a group of developers focused on improving our precinct and central count voting systems. Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship or relocation assistance for this position.
What will you do?
- Design and build new features and enhancements for our central count and election management software platforms.
- Collaborate across a cross-functional team of product managers, developers, and customer support staff to plan, estimate, and develop high-quality, well-factored code.
- Mentor junior team members by guiding their software design, encouraging best practices, and helping them grow their technical skills through code reviews and internal tool development.
What makes you a great fit?
To be successful in this role, you should have at least 7 years of experience developing SaaS or on-premise products and hold a degree in computer science or a related field. You should be comfortable working in an agile environment and possess a strong commitment to automated testing and secure coding practices.
We are looking for someone with the following technical background:
- Proficiency in Python, Pytest, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue, and Bootstrap.
- Familiarity with Docker, MySQL, Git, Jira, and Linux environments.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Beyond your technical toolkit, you should be a collaborative partner who takes personal ownership of your work and maintains a growth-oriented mindset when facing complex challenges.
What's in it for you?
By joining Clear Ballot, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven company that values transparency and innovation. We offer a supportive, inclusive work environment where professional development is encouraged. The primary benefit for this position is the flexibility of our hybrid work model, which allows you to balance time between your home office and our local facilities.
