The role
We are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a senior-level position designed for an expert in data warehousing and analytics who thrives in remote environments. You will be instrumental in shaping our testing strategy for data products, reports, and data marts, specifically focusing on the Databricks ecosystem and the Unity Catalog.
Core responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies across all layers, including unit, integration, and user acceptance testing, while integrating these processes into our CI/CD pipelines.
- Design and maintain automated test suites for ETL and ELT pipelines using Python and Databricks, ensuring data lineage, schema integrity, and adherence to quality rules and SLAs.
- Manage the end-to-end defect lifecycle and test documentation within Jira, ensuring full traceability from initial requirements to final validation.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should bring a deep understanding of modern data architectures and a passion for quality engineering.
- At least 5 years of professional experience as a test engineer or QA specialist within data warehousing or data platform environments.
- Advanced proficiency in both German and English, as you will act as a bridge between technical engineering teams and business stakeholders.
- Strong technical experience with test automation in a data context, including validating ETL processes, data quality frameworks, and KPIs.
- Solid expertise in Jira and ALM tools for managing test plans and defect tracking.
- Practical experience with Databricks, including Python notebooks, PySpark, and Unity Catalog, is highly valued.
- A pragmatic mindset that balances the need for high-quality software with the necessity of maintaining development velocity.
