We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our Technology Innovation Department. Our team is dedicated to managing and modernizing the critical technology systems that power our bus services. By maintaining essential hardware and software, such as our on-vehicle dispatch systems, we directly support the front-line staff who keep our transit network moving. You will work alongside project managers and network engineers to ensure our infrastructure remains reliable, secure, and efficient for both our operators and our riders.
Key outcomes
- Administer and support our core bus dispatch system, known as TransitMaster.
- Manage the deployment of vital schedule data, configuration updates, and service announcements.
- Monitor, patch, and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure in collaboration with our vendors and internal IT teams.
- Act as a technical resource for the team, translating complex concepts for program managers and providing guidance on infrastructure decisions.
- Oversee Mobile Device Management for the Android tablets utilized across our bus fleet.
- Collaborate on incident response procedures and maintain comprehensive documentation to improve our operational resilience.
- Provide support to bus operations staff, including dispatchers and field inspectors, while occasionally visiting bus garages or stations to resolve hardware and software issues.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in System Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
- Four years of professional experience in technology, system administration, transportation operations, or a similar industry.
- Working knowledge of AWS services, Windows system administration, and SQL queries.
- Proficiency with command-line tools, Splunk, and Tableau.
- Experience with incident management processes and the software development lifecycle within an agile environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical details to diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Formal education or certifications in system administration or related technical fields.
- Previous experience in the transportation sector, public sector, or working specifically with dispatch technologies.
- A track record of managing vendor relationships and holding partners accountable for performance.
- Familiarity with the MBTA transit system from a rider's perspective.
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $128,000. We offer a hybrid work arrangement, requiring you to be onsite an average of two to three days per week.
