You will join the New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating cures for diseases such as Parkinson’s and diabetes through stem cell research. Our flagship technology, the NYSCF Global Stem Cell Array®, is one of the world’s largest automated cell culture platforms, enabling large-scale production of cell lines and supporting expansive scientific experiments. We are looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer who will help sustain and advance the software systems that keep this platform running smoothly.
What you'll be doing
- Lead projects that expand and improve our Laboratory Information Management System, writing primarily in C# and Visual Basic within the .NET framework.
- Work with colleagues to design SQL database schemas, create and maintain stored procedures, and apply Entity Framework Core to support reliable data operations.
- Build data management tools and user interfaces that simplify laboratory workflows, while also maintaining legacy code and introducing automated testing for unit, integration, and system levels.
What you'll bring
- At least five years of professional software development experience, including daily hands-on coding in C#, Visual Basic .NET, and WinForms.
- Strong background in SQL, database design, and ideally Entity Framework, along with proven success balancing maintenance of existing systems with thoughtful modernization.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, plus clear communication skills that allow you to collaborate with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Interest in mentoring junior developers and engaging directly with end users during application development; familiarity with AWS and DevOps practices is helpful but not required.
- English fluency and a genuine interest in biology, science, or disease research are valued.
What you'll get
We provide a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time employees that begins on the first of the month after your start date. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 403b retirement plan with a 2 percent employer match and immediate vesting after 90 days, short- and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, an inclusive paid parental leave program, pretax transit and parking benefits, legal assistance, and wellness resources.
Time-off benefits cover vacation, sick days, personal days, flexible holidays, a summer flex program, and all company holidays. If relocation is required we offer an allowance, and if a visa is needed we cover the associated costs. The role is based in our Manhattan location and follows a hybrid schedule.
