We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help us modernize the life insurance industry. At Modern Life, we blend cutting-edge technology with expert advice to help advisors streamline their practices and provide better outcomes for their clients. Having secured 20 million dollars in seed funding from prominent investors and founders behind companies like Plaid, Reddit, and Hippo, we are scaling rapidly and looking for someone to help us shape our product and engineering culture.

Responsibilities

Develop high-quality, reliable code that performs consistently in production environments.
Lead complex projects while balancing technical requirements with business goals throughout the entire lifecycle.
Make strategic trade-offs that prioritize long-term value in our fast-paced startup environment.
Establish and maintain high engineering standards to ensure consistency across our systems and processes.
Influence our product direction and company culture by setting a high bar for design and quality in the insurance space.

Must-haves

At least 5 years of professional experience building and shipping software to production.
A product-focused mindset with a deep sense of empathy for the end user.
Strong self-management skills, a high degree of ownership, and excellent organizational abilities.
The ability to thrive in a dynamic, ambiguous, and fast-growing environment.
Genuine excitement for solving challenging technical and product-related problems.
Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

Previous experience as a founding or early-stage engineer.
Background in the insurtech, fintech, or healthtech sectors.
A track record of helping build a successful, product-focused startup.
A passion for side projects and a willingness to share what you have learned from them.
