At FERNRIDE, we are on a mission to transform the logistics industry by providing scalable automation solutions for yard trucking. Our approach combines human-assisted automation with electric trucks, allowing for remote takeovers that ensure reliable operations and improved safety. With over a decade of research and partnerships with industry leaders like Volkswagen, DB Schenker, and HHLA, we are tackling critical global challenges such as driver shortages and the environmental impact of freight. Our team of over 130 employees from more than 35 countries thrives on a culture of ambition, professionalism, and innovation as we build the future of autonomous logistics.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering and Verification Ecosystems team on a full-time basis. This is a hybrid position based in Germany. You will play a vital role in our central hub, connecting container terminal systems with our self-driving and tele-driving technology. We are seeking an experienced engineer who is ready to take ownership of complex, mission-critical systems that power our fleet and bridge the gap between cloud infrastructure and physical hardware.
Core responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that integrate terminal operations with our autonomous driving stack.
- Architect secure and reliable systems that solve real-world, customer-facing challenges in the logistics sector.
- Collaborate across a diverse technical environment, spanning cloud platforms, vehicle systems, and operator workstations to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in building distributed backend systems. We value candidates who bring the following qualifications:
- Extensive experience with modern programming languages such as Python, Java, and TypeScript, with occasional use of C++.
- Proficiency in container orchestration and deployment using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proven track record of scaling cloud-native services on platforms like AWS or Azure.
- A solid grasp of Linux internals and network concepts, including TCP, UDP, and IP protocols.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring others within a diverse, international team.
- Fluency in English.
Compensation and benefits
We are committed to supporting your professional growth and personal well-being through a comprehensive package that includes:
- Equity compensation to ensure you share in our collective success.
- Flexible working hours and options for remote work.
- Paid time off to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
- Regular company retreats and team events to foster connection across our global organization.
How to apply
If you are passionate about autonomous technology and want to help us build a more sustainable and efficient future for logistics, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application through our internal portal. We manage all hiring decisions directly and do not work with external recruitment agencies or third-party services.
