Senior Software Engineer at Terraformation

We are looking for a dedicated Senior Software Engineer to join our mission at Terraformation. We are focused on scaling native forest restoration to combat climate change, and we believe software is the key to accelerating this work by tenfold each year. Our team is currently working to replace manual, funding-limited processes with data-driven automation. By joining us, you will help our global team of forest scientists and business experts expand our impact, which already includes planting over one million trees and supporting 19 forestry projects worldwide. We operate as a fully remote team across the United States, and we need you to be available for at least three working hours of overlap with both Pacific and Hawaii time zones.

What you'll be doing

• You will iterate on our existing forestry restoration and accelerator applications built with React, while contributing to our Kotlin backend to meet our product goals.
• You will collaborate cross-functionally with our design and product teams to make critical decisions regarding project scope, timelines, and feature prioritization.
• You will help shape our engineering culture by participating in code reviews, improving our documentation, sharing on-call responsibilities, and helping us interview and hire new talent.

What you'll bring

To be successful in this role, you should have at least four years of professional software engineering experience, including at least one year building full-stack production applications. We value candidates who are passionate about solving climate change and are eager to learn and apply new technologies. We work with a specific stack, so you should be comfortable with or willing to learn the following:

• Kotlin and Java for backend development.
• React, TypeScript, and Redux for our frontend systems.
• AWS for infrastructure, managed with Terraform and Ansible.
• PostgreSQL for data management and GitHub Actions for our testing and deployment pipelines.

While not required, we would love to see experience in startup environments, open-source contributions, and a strong background in architecting robust React applications or designing comprehensive test suites.

What you'll get

We offer a competitive salary range of $130,000 to $150,000 per year, depending on your experience and location. In addition to your base pay, you will receive the following benefits:
