Senior Software Engineer at Chromatic

By maintaining Storybook, you will help set the industry standard for UI quality and reach a massive audience of developers across the globe.

What you bring

As a senior member of our team, you will work in a full-time, remote capacity to advance the capabilities of Storybook. You will be responsible for maintaining our core codebase, designing APIs that serve our global user base, and driving the implementation of new features. This role is open to candidates located anywhere, provided you can maintain core hours with a 09:00 to 15:00 UTC overlap. Your primary responsibilities include:

• Serving as a core maintainer for the Storybook project.
• Designing and refining APIs for end users, addon authors, and our internal team.
• Collaborating in the open by reviewing pull requests, triaging issues, and drafting technical RFCs.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with at least five years of experience building for the web using JavaScript and TypeScript. You should have a deep understanding of modern web frameworks and build tools like Next.js and Vite, specifically how they function under the hood. Experience building developer tools or libraries is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly in English within a distributed, asynchronous environment. We value candidates who are empathetic, kind, and eager to participate in a collaborative, engineering-led culture. A genuine interest in open-source project management and a passion for improving the developer experience will make you an ideal fit for our team.

What we offer
