At Neon, we are on a mission to build a cloud-native, open-source PostgreSQL database as a service for developers everywhere. By separating storage from compute, we enable serverless Postgres that scales to meet the needs of modern applications. We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Autoscaling team on a full-time, remote basis. This is an opportunity to join a well-funded, fast-paced startup where you will work on low-level systems code to help us deploy and automatically scale Postgres virtual machines.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with our experienced engineering team to design, build, and maintain our core virtual machine infrastructure.
Develop low-level system software, focusing on areas like Kubernetes, containers, networking, and virtual machine management.
Take an active role in our on-call rotation and contribute to our hiring process by interviewing prospective engineering talent.

Requirements

At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience, including a minimum of 1 year working with Go.
Extensive background in low-level backend languages such as C, C++, or Rust.
Deep technical expertise in Linux system programming, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and virtual machine technologies like QEMU.
A proven track record of delivering complex projects and a passion for performance engineering.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
A strong sense of ownership and a desire to work in an early-stage, collaborative, open-source environment.
