Modern Intelligence is developing foundational AI for the defense sector, creating advanced tools like Cutlass to help the military process massive amounts of sensor data in real time. We have secured over $12 million in funding from prominent investors and are currently deploying our technology in live Department of Defense missions to provide critical insights across drones, satellites, and command centers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Cutlass software team by translating high-level requirements into actionable design documents and execution plans.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Engineering, the Machine Learning Lead, and the Data Science Lead to shape our overall product direction and technical architecture.
- Provide technical and business-focused communication between your team, other departments, and leadership.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers on best practices including code quality, testing, and version control.
- Foster a strong engineering culture while working on-site to build the future of our company.
Must-haves
- Proven experience leading a team of at least three junior engineers on long-term, multi-quarter projects.
- Strong expertise in writing and reviewing technical design documentation.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally several times per quarter.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one compiled language such as C++ or Rust.
- Experience with Docker or other OCI software.
- Background in time-sensitive software, such as embedded systems, safety-critical applications, or operating systems.
- Experience interfacing Python with other languages through bindings like SWIG or Boost Python.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience with Machine Learning workflows.
- Knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js.
- Familiarity with video transcoding tools like ffmpeg.
- Experience with applied math, optics, or LLVM.
- Technical proficiency with Nuitka, Python compilation, or multiprocess Python.
- An existing security clearance.
