At MongoDB, our mission is to empower innovators to transform industries by unleashing the potential of software and data. We provide a globally distributed, multi-cloud developer data platform called MongoDB Atlas, which enables organizations to build and scale modern applications across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. With over 175,000 new developers joining our ecosystem every month, industry leaders like Toyota and Samsung rely on us to power their next-generation, AI-driven applications. We are looking for passionate individuals to join our team and help us redefine what is possible for developers and system architects worldwide.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Replication Team on a full-time basis. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of our New York City headquarters, one of our office hubs, or remotely across the United States and Canada. You will be instrumental in building the infrastructure that ensures high availability, fault tolerance, and tunable consistency for our database. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to contribute to the flagship features of our major releases.
Core responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative data replication solutions using the Raft consensus protocol to ensure zero-downtime and automatic failover for our users.
- Write high-quality, production-ready database code in C++ while maintaining rigorous standards through unit and integration testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to investigate performance regressions, resolve complex customer escalations, and mentor junior team members.
Skills and experience
- At least 5 years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning for distributed or highly concurrent C/C++ software systems.
- Deep understanding of systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling.
- Practical knowledge of distributed systems concepts such as consensus protocols, data replication, and fault tolerance.
- Familiarity with database internals or the development of core components for data processing systems.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative team culture.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary range for this position is $147,000 to $210,000 USD. In addition to competitive pay, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your professional and personal well-being, including:
- Equity compensation to ensure you share in our success.
- A 401k plan to help you plan for the future.
- Flexible hours and a generous paid time off policy.
- A dedicated mental wellness budget.
- The flexibility of a hybrid or remote work environment.
How to apply
If you are excited about solving complex distributed systems challenges and want to help us build the future of data, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application through our careers portal. We are committed to an inclusive hiring process, so please let your recruiter know if you require any specific accommodations due to a disability.
