Senior Software Engineer at Accela

We're excited to welcome a Senior Software Engineer who wants to shape the future of secure, scalable government technology from anywhere in the world. At Accela, you will join a remote-first team that has spent nearly twenty years building cloud platforms used by communities of all sizes to streamline planning, permitting, and citizen services. Your work will directly influence how local governments operate more efficiently and transparently, and you will help establish our new Costa Rica presence as part of our global expansion.

What you'll be doing

• Act as the senior engineer on a Scrum team, designing and delivering new features while refactoring and strengthening core applications that run on Azure and AWS.
• Guide requirement definition, lead analysis and grooming sessions, and contribute across the full software development lifecycle from concept through release and production support.
• Perform code reviews, write unit tests, document solutions, and partner with QA engineers to create testing protocols that keep our SaaS products reliable and secure.

What you'll bring

You bring at least five years of professional software engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree or equivalent background in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. You are fluent in Java, Angular, and .NET, and you have deep experience with Java unit-testing frameworks such as JUnit, TestNG, or Mockito. You understand secure development principles, have worked extensively with CI/CD pipelines and build systems, and are comfortable using Git for source control. Hands-on knowledge of Azure Cloud and the ability to simplify complex problems into clear, actionable steps are essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills allow you to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues, and you have experience coaching or mentoring teammates. English proficiency is required. Certifications in Java, C#, or enterprise SaaS solutions are viewed as valuable additions.
