At Atom Computing, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible by building quantum computers that utilize arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms. Our goal is to provide our customers with the tools they need to reach unprecedented computational breakthroughs. We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help us advance the state of the art in quantum computing. You will work alongside a diverse group of scientists and engineers in a collaborative environment as we develop the next generation of computing technology. This role is based in Berkeley, California, or Boulder, Colorado, with a hybrid work model available.
What you'll be doing
- You will build and optimize intermediate representations, transpilation tools, and software for quantum algorithm development.
- You will partner with internal and external stakeholders to shape the roadmaps and feature sets for our full-stack quantum operating system.
- You will work closely with our quantum theorists and control systems engineers to write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code that executes experiments directly on our quantum hardware.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should have at least three years of professional experience in software engineering or scientific computation, along with a degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field. We are looking for someone who has a solid grasp of quantum information concepts and previous experience developing software for quantum systems. Your background should include the following skills and qualifications:
- Proficiency in programming with C++, Python, and Rust.
- Experience with compiler infrastructure such as LLVM or MLIR, or familiarity with quantum frameworks like Qiskit, Cirq, or OpenQASM.
- A proven ability to turn research concepts into robust production code.
- Strong familiarity with Git version control and automated testing best practices.
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment where you are comfortable with ambiguity.
- A willingness to learn the fundamentals of atomic, optical, and laser physics to better understand the context of your work.
What you'll get
We offer a competitive base salary range of $140,000 to $185,000, supplemented by an annual bonus and company equity. Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to support you and your family, including:
- Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents.
- Unlimited paid time off.
- 401k plan with company matching.
- Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
- Life insurance.
- Hybrid work flexibility.
- Daily snacks, drinks, and catered team lunches when working from the office.
