At Lumafield, we are on a mission to change how the world creates and manufactures products. Since our founding in 2019, we have built the world's first accessible X-Ray CT scanner, providing engineers with the tools they need to see inside their work with unprecedented clarity. By combining affordable hardware with powerful, AI-driven cloud software, we help teams make better decisions and solve complex problems faster. We are a well-funded, impact-driven company backed by top-tier investors like Kleiner Perkins and Lux Capital, and we are looking for passionate people to join our collaborative, ego-free team of researchers and creators.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer and Embedded Team Lead to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. This is a leadership position where you will play a critical role in shaping the software that powers our volumetric imaging hardware. You will bridge the gap between hardware and software, ensuring that our scanners deliver high-quality data to our cloud-based tools while mentoring a talented team of engineers.
Core responsibilities
- Lead the development of the core technology stack that drives our advanced scanning hardware.
- Collaborate daily with cross-functional hardware and software teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Guide product direction through sound engineering judgment and technical decision-making.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong background in embedded systems and team leadership. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Deep expertise in performant Python, specifically regarding its impact on operating systems and hardware.
- Proven experience configuring, building, and deploying Linux for embedded devices.
- A track record of delivering software in manufacturing environments, including experience with PLCs.
- Experience leading Agile software development teams and mentoring engineers.
- A history of designing robust codebases from the ground up through to final product shipment.
- A security-first mindset and strong opinions on interface design best practices.
Bonus points if you have experience with bare metal firmware development in C, async programming with Python 3, or knowledge of protocols like USB, RS-232, and websockets.
Compensation and benefits
We believe in taking care of our team members. In addition to competitive cash and equity packages, we provide:
- 401k retirement planning.
- Commuter benefits to support your travel to our offices.
- Health and wellness stipends.
- Parental leave and flexible PTO.
- Company-wide events and a supportive, inclusive work environment.
How to apply
If you are excited about our technology and want to help us revolutionize the way complex products are built, we want to hear from you. We value diverse perspectives and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every single requirement listed. Please reach out to our team to start a conversation about your experience and how you can contribute to our mission.
