Senior Software Engineer, Backend at Flex

At Flex, we are reimagining the financial landscape for business owners. We are building a comprehensive finance super app designed to transform every part of the financial workflow for entrepreneurs. Since our public launch in September 2023, we have grown our revenue more than 25 times over, and we are currently on track to reach profitability by early 2025. We focus on serving mid-market businesses that generate between 3 and 100 million dollars in revenue, a segment that has been largely ignored by traditional regional banks. The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help write our early story. This is a full-time, remote role open to candidates based in Canada, the United States, and Colombia. You will work primarily on the back-end while having the flexibility to contribute across the entire stack. As an early member of our engineering team, you will have a significant impact on our technical design and culture, taking full ownership of projects from their initial concept all the way to final release.

A day in the life

• You will take full ownership of major features and domains, including core ledgering for financial transactions and card processing systems.
• You will architect robust services and data models that support our rapid growth while considering scalability, security, and API design.
• You will lead by example, mentoring other engineers and driving the adoption of best-in-class technology frameworks across our platform.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer with at least four years of experience shipping high-quality products at scale. You possess a strong sense of ownership and a desire to build complex systems from the ground up. Your background includes the following:

• Strong proficiency in NodeJS and TypeScript, alongside a deep understanding of server design principles.
• Practical experience with cloud providers such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
• Familiarity with both micro-services and modular monolith architectures.
• An interest in designing highly available, low-latency, and asynchronous systems.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions when evaluating technical trade-offs.
• Fluency in English.
