At Cobalt, we believe that everyone deserves to live and work in a safer digital world. Since our founding in 2013, we have challenged the traditional pentesting model by building a collaborative, cloud-native platform that connects organizations with a vetted community of elite security testers. Our mission is to empower teams to operate fearlessly and innovate securely, and we are proud to support a diverse, fully remote workforce that values authenticity and high-impact work.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Security Researcher to join our Offensive Security Research team on a full-time, remote basis. This is a senior-level position requiring at least 36 months of professional experience. You will play a critical role in bridging the gap between cutting-edge adversary tradecraft and actionable security guidance for our customers, helping us evolve how the industry approaches vulnerability research and threat analysis.
Core responsibilities
- Conduct deep-dive vulnerability research and reverse engineering across modern web platforms, cloud infrastructures, and critical enterprise software.
- Develop proof-of-concept exploit techniques to demonstrate real-world risks and validate findings for our customers.
- Collaborate with our product and engineering teams to translate research insights into scalable security assessment capabilities and automated testing workflows.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in offensive security and a passion for uncovering novel attack surfaces. We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- Extensive experience in penetration testing, vulnerability research, or red teaming.
- Technical proficiency in languages such as Python, Go, BASH, and Rust.
- Hands-on expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud environments like AWS and GCP.
- A deep understanding of modern application stacks and operating system internals.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to document complex findings for both technical and executive audiences.
- Residency in the United States.
Compensation and benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $150,000 USD per year, complemented by an attractive equity package. Our benefits are designed to support your long-term well-being and professional growth:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- 401k retirement savings plan.
- Generous paid time off and maternity/paternity leave.
- A dedicated learning budget to support your professional development.
- Wellness programs and support for a remote-first work environment.
How to apply
If you are ready to push the boundaries of offensive security and contribute to a mission-driven team, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application, including your resume and any relevant research or project highlights, through our internal portal. We look forward to reviewing your experience and discussing how you can help us shape the future of security research.
