Senior Security Engineer at Magicschool

We're a fast-moving, mission-driven team looking for a Senior Security Engineer who wants to shape how security works inside a high-growth AI company serving schools around the world.

Role at a glance

This is a full-time, senior-level security role that can be performed from anywhere. You'll report directly to the Director of IT and serve as the main security partner for our engineering, product, and design teams.

Your impact

• Lead the rollout of secure development practices by running threat modeling sessions, managing automated scanning tools like StackHawk and GitHub Advanced Security, and triaging real-world threats such as compromised packages or zero-day vulnerabilities.
• Own our identity and access strategy across AWS, Google Cloud, and internal tools-configuring SSO, SAML, and OIDC, enforcing least-privilege access, and building review processes that support SOC 2, FERPA, and COPPA requirements.
• Act as the first responder for security incidents, maintain and improve our incident response playbooks, and run workshops and simulations that raise security awareness across the entire company.

What you'll need

You bring at least five years of hands-on experience in application or cloud security and have embedded directly inside engineering teams to improve security without slowing development. You're comfortable with SAST, DAST, and SCA tooling, and you have real experience working in AWS or Google Cloud environments. You know how to run threat modeling exercises using frameworks like STRIDE or PASTA and can translate complex security topics for both technical and non-technical teammates. Experience securing AI or LLM-powered products is a plus, as is prior work in EdTech or other compliance-heavy SaaS settings.
