At CARTO, we are leading the charge in Location Intelligence. Our mission is to help organizations uncover the hidden insights within their spatial data, turning complex information into meaningful business impact. As the premier geospatial platform, we empower our users to innovate and disrupt traditional models by analyzing data directly where it lives, whether that is in BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks. Backed by major investors like Accel Partners and Salesforce Ventures, we are transforming how the world views spatial problems. Our engineering team is a talented, distributed group working from across Europe and beyond, and we are looking for a passionate developer to help us push the boundaries of what is possible with our CARTO 3 platform.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Senior React Engineer to join our frontend team. Our current stack is built entirely on React and is free of legacy code, as we have designed our platform from the ground up to be high-performance and modern. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining and evolving our core products, including our visual workflow tools, our dashboard workspace, and our client-side API interfaces. You will work in a fully remote environment, collaborating with a team that values technical excellence, open-source contributions, and a shared passion for geospatial visualization.
A day in the life
- You will build and refine high-performance geospatial applications using React, TypeScript, and WebGL to ensure a seamless experience for our users.
- You will collaborate with your team through pair programming and code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
- You will contribute to our core libraries and tools, such as our API client or our integrations with mapping frameworks like deck.gl, to maintain our position at the forefront of the GIS market.
Who you are
You are a seasoned engineer with at least 5 years of professional development experience, including time spent in a lead capacity. You have a deep, internal understanding of React and have spent at least 3 years working extensively with the library. You are an active participant in the community and have a strong grasp of modern development workflows, including testing, profiling, and version control with Git. Because our team is distributed, you are comfortable working autonomously, you communicate fluently in English, and you bring a curious, energetic, and collaborative spirit to every project.
Why you'll love it here
We offer a supportive environment where your professional growth is a priority. We believe in the power of diverse perspectives and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every single requirement listed. Our benefits include:
- Flexible hours to help you balance your work and personal life.
- Comprehensive medical insurance coverage.
- Participation in our Employee Stock Options Plan.
- The opportunity to work remotely as part of a highly qualified, motivated, and global engineering team.
