Senior Product Engineer, Scalability at Railway

We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer to architect this backbone, ensuring our infrastructure remains fast, accurate, and reliable as we continue to expand.

What you'll be doing

• Architect and maintain high-throughput pipelines that convert raw usage data into accurate, real-time billing and invoicing across millions of events.
• Develop robust payment flows that handle concurrency and partial failures, ensuring idempotent charges and clean integration with providers like Stripe.
• Design and implement fraud and abuse detection systems that protect our platform margin while maintaining a seamless experience for legitimate users.

What you'll bring

You have a strong background in backend engineering and a proven track record of scaling systems to handle 10x growth. You are comfortable working in a remote, asynchronous environment and possess the following skills:

• Deep expertise in Postgres and relational data modeling, including an understanding of consistency guarantees at scale.
• Strong knowledge of Node.js internals and experience managing complex, long-running asynchronous jobs using workflow engines like Temporal.
• Experience with TypeScript and GraphQL for building APIs where correctness and auditability are essential.
• Familiarity with the challenges of money movement, including payment reconciliation, retries, and failure modes.
• Proficiency or a strong desire to learn Rust to contribute to our open-source repositories.
• Excellent communication skills to document designs and collaborate effectively across a distributed team.
