At Red Canary, our engineering team is at the forefront of the cybersecurity industry. We build and maintain a platform that delivers industry-leading threat detection and response, processing billions of events every single day from hundreds of thousands of systems across the globe. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to join our remote-first team. In this role, you will empower our engineers to reach their full potential while ensuring we continue to build a high-quality, scalable platform that secures our customers' environments.
Key outcomes
- Mentor and grow a team of talented engineers by fostering individual ownership and providing consistent feedback through regular 1:1 meetings and clear performance goals.
- Collaborate across departments, including product management, IT, and legal, to ensure the timely delivery of robust products and services.
- Partner with engineering leadership to define, track, and achieve department-level objectives and key results.
- Manage vendor relationships on behalf of the engineering department.
- Oversee department-wide initiatives such as technology evaluations, cost analysis, and the development of system performance metrics.
- Actively participate in high-level architecture design and contribute to code reviews as a player-coach who understands engineering at scale.
- Hold the team accountable for meeting requirements, schedules, and project commitments.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience or equivalent technical background.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a direct management role, specifically focused on technical mentorship, career development, and team growth.
- Proficiency with Ruby and common libraries such as RSpec and Sidekiq.
- A strong background in agile development and working within cross-functional teams.
- A deep interest in software architecture, including experience with complex systems and infrastructure as code.
- A proven history of collaborating with product managers to build and execute against strategic roadmaps.
- The ability to participate in an on-call rotation within the engineering department.
- Fluency in English.
Compensation
The targeted base salary range for this position is $197,000 to $225,000, with additional eligibility for bonuses and equity based on your experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
