The Position
We are looking for an experienced and driven Senior Manager, IT Lab Systems to join our team. This person will be the IT owner for both validated and non-validated lab environments. In this role, you’ll be the IT owner for both validated and non-validated lab systems, combining leadership with hands-on engineering responsibilities. You will support and validate lab systems, working closely with both IT and business stakeholders. Additionally, you will manage vendor relationships, optimize lab data practices, ensure compliance with backup policies, and address lab-related IT escalations. Collaborating with Lab Operations, you’ll oversee instrument lifecycle management while mentoring service desk staff to ensure seamless support of lab IT systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Work closely with Research and Development (R&D), Manufacturing, and the Lab Operations team to translate business needs into technical solutions. Gaining alignment while communicating plans, changes, and improvements across functions.
- Lead IT projects from concept to implementation, including timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with Lab Operations to manage the instrument lifecycle (procurement, implementation, maintenance, and decommissioning).
- Ensure all R&D IT solutions comply with GxP regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Ensure all systems are documented and staff trained, to facilitate operational support between the service desk and system users.
- Streamline and enhance data management practices within the lab to improve data flow, accuracy, and compliance.
- Maintain compliance with backup policies and data retention requirements, ensuring data recoverability and resiliency.
- Provide technical support for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) instruments, ensuring seamless integration with lab IT systems and processes.
- Handle lab-based IT escalations, providing technical support and troubleshooting.
- Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot key lab systems, including Empower, OpenLab, Waters Connect, and Unicorn.
- Leverages technical expertise to provides mentorship to junior team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or engineering field with at least 7 years related experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
- Required certifications:
- CompTIA Network+ or similar certification
- CompTIA Security+ or similar certification
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively interfacing with both business stakeholders and technical teams.
- Proven ability to collaborate and engage with individuals across all organizational levels.
- Experience with AWS Storage Gateway and other cloud-based storage solutions.
- Deep understanding of 21 CFR Part 11, software validation, and GxP compliance, particularly in QC and manufacturing environments.
- Experience handling Big Data, especially in genomic sequencing.
- Skilled in training and mentoring support staff on lab systems and processes.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment such as HPLCs, Mass Spectrometers, and Illumina Sequencers.
