Key outcomes
- Lead the full software engineering organization, guiding architecture decisions, development practices, and day-to-day execution across our codebase and cloud infrastructure.
- Partner with the CTO and product leadership to shape and deliver the product roadmap, ensuring engineering work aligns with business priorities.
- Establish and maintain high standards of engineering excellence through coaching, code and design reviews, and strategic technical guidance while empowering teams to own execution.
- Support the professional growth of engineers through career development, clear expectations, and recognition, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.
- Continuously improve our software development lifecycle and processes to increase velocity, quality, and team well-being, including thoughtful exploration of generative AI tools.
- Recruit and onboard a diverse group of talented engineers as the organization scales.
- Model Upwave’s values of humility, empathy, and collaboration, serving as a cultural steward for the entire engineering team.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing high-performing engineering teams that have delivered production-grade SaaS or enterprise software at scale.
- Strong technical curiosity and the ability to understand complex systems both at an architectural level and in technical detail.
- Systems-thinking approach to organizational change, balancing process improvements with care for individual team members.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and maintain alignment across stakeholders.
- Demonstrated humility and a service-oriented leadership style that elevates the best ideas regardless of their origin.
- Readiness to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, including a willingness to work hard during critical periods while supporting sustainable work-life balance.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Deep familiarity with architectural patterns for cloud-native, data-intensive applications.
- Hands-on experience with modern web stacks such as React on the frontend and JVM languages (Java, Kotlin, or Groovy) on the backend, along with Python for AI and machine-learning workloads.
- Exposure to the adtech or martech ecosystem, marketing measurement techniques such as media mix modeling or attribution, and analytical methods including causal inference and machine learning.
Compensation
The annual base salary range for this role is $170,000 to $227,000. In addition to base salary, compensation includes equity and a benefits package that covers remote work, flexible hours, professional development opportunities, and paid time off.
