What you bring

We are looking for a Senior GCP Data Engineer to join us on a contractor basis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building a greenfield data ingestion and processing workflow entirely from the ground up on Google Cloud Platform. You will be based in South Africa and will work closely with our internal teams to ensure our data infrastructure is modular, scalable, and maintainable. Your primary responsibilities include:

• Architecting a comprehensive data solution on GCP, covering everything from networking and security to storage strategies.
• Provisioning all infrastructure using Terraform to ensure our systems are repeatable and easy to maintain.
• Building robust ETL and ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, Dataflow, and Cloud Functions while mentoring our internal analytics team to ensure they can manage the systems independently.

Requirements

To succeed in this position, you should possess deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform and a proven ability to work independently. We are looking for someone with strong technical skills in BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Composer. You must be proficient in Python and advanced SQL, with hands-on experience using Dataform for data transformations. It is essential that you have a solid understanding of IAM, service accounts, and network security principles. Beyond your technical abilities, you should be a clear communicator who can produce high-quality documentation and architecture diagrams.
