Senior Full Stack Software Engineer at Instrumentl

Instrumentl is a profitable, YC-backed startup dedicated to transforming the future of fundraising automation. With over 2,700 nonprofit clients ranging from local shelters to major institutions like the San Diego Zoo, our platform helps organizations discover, track, and manage grants with ease. We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join our fully remote, distributed team and help us build strategic, high-quality solutions that empower nonprofits to achieve their missions.

Responsibilities

• Develop, operate, and enhance products that serve a diverse range of nonprofit customers.
• Design responsive interfaces and robust APIs that simplify the fundraising process and drive user retention.
• Write clean, thoroughly tested code to ensure the reliability of both our user-facing features and backend infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and content teams to refine internal tools and maintain our high product standards.
• Take full ownership of technical challenges, managing complexity from initial concept to long-term deployment.
• Act as a strategic partner by balancing business impact, system reliability, and attention to detail in every customer interaction.
• Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous technical improvement.

Must-haves

• At least 5 years of professional experience as a software engineer, ideally within a startup environment.
• A generalist mindset with the ability to work across the front end, back end, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
• Hands-on proficiency with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, Heroku, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, HTML, and CSS.
• Strong communication skills in English and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional stakeholders.
• A methodical, results-driven work ethic with a passion for delivering projects from ideation to completion.
• Significant availability that overlaps with Pacific Time Zone working hours.

Benefits

The salary for this role is $120,000 to $160,000 per year.
