At Barley, we are tackling a massive, often overlooked problem. Compensation makes up the majority of most companies' operating costs, yet many organizations still rely on messy, manual spreadsheets to manage pay. This leaves leadership guessing and employees feeling uncertain or unfairly treated. We are a venture-backed startup on a mission to change that. Our platform helps companies manage salary bands and conduct pay equity analysis, ultimately empowering them to make smarter, more rational pay decisions. We are looking for passionate people to join our team and help us build a more equitable future for workers everywhere.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join us on a full-time basis. In this role, you will be a core member of our engineering team, helping us scale our platform and refine the tools that drive fair compensation. You will work in a hybrid environment, balancing the flexibility of working from home with the opportunity to collaborate in person at our offices in Toronto or Vancouver.
Key Responsibilities
- Solve complex technical challenges and ship new features as we scale our platform to meet growing customer demand.
- Collaborate closely with our product, design, and engineering teams within an agile framework to build secure, high-quality software.
- Take ownership of database design and schema architecture while developing robust APIs and integrations.
Requirements
We value deep technical experience and a genuine curiosity for learning. To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Professional experience shipping cloud-based software products to market.
- Strong proficiency in building within a multi-tenant SaaS environment using Node.js, GraphQL, Hasura, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with modern web development tools such as TypeScript, ReactJS, Vite, and NestJS.
- A solid understanding of cloud and serverless infrastructure, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a feedback-oriented culture.
Location
This position is based in Canada. We operate with a hybrid model, supporting team members who live within 200 kilometers of our hiring hubs in Toronto or Vancouver.
Compensation and Benefits
We believe in transparency and equity, starting with our own team. We offer a competitive base salary ranging from $130,000 to $175,000 USD, along with the following perks:
- Stock options to ensure you have a meaningful stake in our success.
- Comprehensive medical insurance coverage starting on your first day.
- A generous paid time off policy.
- An annual learning budget to support your professional development.
- The flexibility of a remote-first culture with access to dedicated office spaces for team collaboration.
