Key outcomes
- Lead one or more engineering teams through both short-term delivery goals and long-term product and team health.
- Partner with an embedded product manager to ensure the team builds the right features at the right time.
- Champion technical practices that balance immediate needs with sustainable, high-quality system design.
- Guide design and development decisions that keep the product and codebase sound and maintainable.
- Deliver customer value quickly in an agile environment while gathering feedback and iterating.
- Introduce processes and tools that improve quality and reduce friction without slowing delivery.
- Manage hiring, retention, performance, and coaching so the team grows and succeeds together.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing engineers across multiple teams or settings.
- Hands-on software engineering background with evidence of technical mentorship.
- Experience shaping team culture in a player-coach capacity.
- Strong communication skills paired with empathy and emotional intelligence.
- Comfort facilitating discussions while ensuring team and stakeholder needs are met.
- Track record of developing career plans, conducting performance management, running interviews, and coaching engineers at varying skill levels.
- Ability to balance pragmatism with thoughtful consideration of constraints rather than over-engineering solutions.
- Preference for empowering team members over controlling outcomes.
- Commitment to excellence through good design, code review practices, high test coverage, automation, performance, and high availability.
- Collaborative mindset that values product managers and designers as essential team members and prioritizes the global outcome over local wins.
- Kindness and second-order thinking that places long-term team safety and growth above short-term comfort, delivered through frequent, direct, and constructive feedback.
- Genuine interest in the technical and business problems the company solves.

- Proficiency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with React, TypeScript, .NET, MS SQL Server, Azure, or SCORM.
- Prior remote work experience.
- Background in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Domain experience in education or restaurant operations.
- Experience building enterprise or web products at scale.
- Work with distributed systems, complex user interfaces, or other challenging engineering problems.
