Senior Engineer, Payments at Sure

The role

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our payments team. This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates anywhere. As a senior member of our distributed team, you will play a critical role in optimizing our payment platforms for security, performance, and efficiency. We value autonomy and effective communication, and we are looking for someone who is eager to both teach and learn from our collaborative engineering group.

Core responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable APIs while implementing elegant web-facing solutions to address complex challenges in the payments ecosystem.
• Contribute to the entire software development lifecycle, including architecture, code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and debugging.
• Collaborate with product teams and cross-functional stakeholders to plan, design, and implement new features while resolving technical incidents to ensure system reliability.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should bring the following qualifications:

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, specifically focused on payment platforms.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience working with Python, Ruby, Java, or Go, with Python and Django being highly preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience integrating with payment processors or building gateways that interface with banks and card networks.
• Proven ability to build applications within a secure, PCI-compliant environment.
• Experience with AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.
• A strong understanding of building streaming systems that handle large volumes of immutable, auditable data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a self-motivated approach to work.
