Photoroom is the world's leading AI photo editor, having grown from a Y Combinator startup in 2020 to a platform that processes over 5 billion images annually. We are currently looking for a Senior Django Backend Lead to join our team of 65 experts as we scale toward our goal of $100M ARR. In this role, you will lead a small team and take full ownership of the backend infrastructure that powers our app for over 150 million users worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and management for a growing backend team.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for our backend infrastructure.
- Take end-to-end ownership of features, from initial architecture and coding to monitoring performance in production.
- Collaborate closely with our mobile and web teams to ensure a seamless experience for our users.
- Iterate quickly based on user feedback and product usage data.
- Maintain high standards for code quality and system performance while managing complex backend challenges.
Must-haves
- At least 5 years of professional experience in backend development.
- Proven track record of scaling a Django codebase to handle high throughput.
- Experience managing teams and driving high performance.
- Hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL or MySQL databases larger than 100 GB, including schema design and zero-downtime migrations.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Django REST Framework, and modern design patterns.
- A pragmatic mindset that prioritizes speed of iteration and leveraging existing frameworks.
- Fluency in English.
