Position Overview
At VerticalScope, we are reimagining the future of online communities. This is a great opportunity for an energetic Senior DevOps Engineer to join a talented team, enabling many of the most visited sites and forums in North America such as RedFlagDeals.com. You will ensure a scalable, reliable, and observable platform, serving over four million users monthly. This role requires a blend of expertise in infrastructure design, automation, cloud technologies (specifically Google Cloud and Kubernetes), and software development. You will report to the Director of Engineering in a flat organization and collaborate with five engineers in a close-knit team.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you are excited to be working at the center of nearly every application, tool, and service we use to create a great experience for both our customers and developers. You are motivated by high quality and confidence in availability and stability. You understand the pipelines a build goes through until it reaches production and can help monitor and improve quality metrics throughout.
The position is remote and you can work anywhere in Canada except Quebec.

Key Responsibilities
- Work with engineering and operations teams to grow a world-class portfolio of businesses
- Work across several popular web properties including RedFlagDeals and VarageSale
- Identify areas of improvement in both the infrastructure and developer experience. Passionate about improving tooling, built systems, and stability.
- Configure and monitor infrastructure and the services within
- Coordinate and collaborate with development teams with their infrastructure needs
- Monitor and optimize cloud costs
- Securely grant access to new infrastructure
- Assist in programming tasks to allow the general codebase to connect and interface with cloud infrastructure
- Maintain and create playbooks for fast infrastructure response
- Communicate with stakeholders about any changes and outages
- Be on-call on a week-long schedule, rotating with five other engineers. The on-call schedule is subject to change
- Other related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as negotiated and needed to meet the ongoing needs of the company
Qualifications and Expertise
- 7+ years DevOps or site reliability engineering experience, but if you’re awesome, we’re flexible!
- Lots of experience with GCP or AWS. You’re comfortable configuring, running, and managing services in either, and you know your way around Compute, Kubernetes, MySQL, Storage, DNS, etc.
- Monitoring & alerting solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Pagerduty
- Managing access controls, permissions, and service accounts
- Production-level Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform experience
- Maintaining build pipelines and deployment orchestrations
- Knowledge of security practices, protocols, methodologies, procedures, and compliance
- Experience with GitOps workflows for changes to environments
- Knowledge of load balancing and Nginx configurations.
- General Linux and networking concepts including familiarity with Ubuntu and Docker
