Clearway Energy Group is a leader in the transition to a sustainable future, managing a robust portfolio of approximately 11.6 GW of generating capacity across 26 states. Our team is dedicated to powering over 3 million homes through a mix of wind, solar, and battery energy storage assets, as well as conventional dispatchable power. We are currently looking for a Senior Development Engineer to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role reports to the Director of Development Engineering and serves as a vital technical lead for our early-stage utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
Key outcomes
- Lead the technical design and engineering efforts for new energy storage and utility-scale solar bidding opportunities.
- Manage internal and external resources to develop preliminary plant designs, performance projections, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Quantify and communicate site constraints, potential cost adders, and schedule risks to stakeholders.
- Optimize equipment selection, including modules, inverters, and racking systems.
- Represent our organization in negotiations and meetings with clients, regulatory authorities, consultants, and suppliers.
- Support the competitive EPC contracting process through scope development and bid analysis.
- Oversee site assessments to gather critical data for early-stage project documentation.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in the energy industry, with a minimum of 2 years of direct EPC experience involving the design, permitting, and construction of solar or energy storage projects.
- Strong understanding of project design optimization, current market equipment, and technical specifications.
- Experience with standalone battery storage design, including integration with existing or co-developed generation facilities.
- Familiarity with project financing requirements and independent engineer standards.
- Proficiency in reviewing and negotiating engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
- Knowledge of relevant US and IEC equipment standards and construction codes.
- Ability to manage consultants and contractors effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in the English language.
Preferred qualifications
- A Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $148,000 USD. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on performance.
