At Laurel we are building technology that returns time to professionals who spend their days on screens. Our Time Automation platform quietly records how knowledge workers actually spend their time, freeing them from manual six-minute timekeeping entries and giving firms clearer insight into the value their teams create. We are a small, ambitious group that pairs deep technical curiosity with a practical drive to ship, and we are now looking for a Senior Desktop Software Engineer to help us scale that vision.
What you'll be doing
- Design, build, and maintain reliable, secure desktop client components that capture the digital footprint of professional work, using C#, .NET Core, Win32 APIs, COM, and MSIX to deliver features that scale to enterprise rollouts.
- Develop and operate the backend services that ingest roughly 150 million activity records each year, diagnose field issues with tools such as Sumo Logic and memory dumps, and continuously improve performance, observability, and security.
- Collaborate daily with AI engineers, product managers, and data scientists to translate user needs into robust solutions, write clear architecture documentation, and take part in an on-call rotation that supports customers around the clock.
What you'll bring
- Several years of hands-on experience building and shipping Windows desktop applications in C# and .NET 7 (or later), along with solid knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, object-oriented design, Windows threading, and Visual Studio 2022.
- Practical experience with AWS, Git, observability platforms, feature-flag services, and identity providers, plus a track record of participating in Agile development and on-call rotations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small, cross-functional team without a separate QA function.
Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Node.js/TypeScript, browser or Outlook plug-ins, Windows security hardening, or WiX installers is helpful but not required.
What you'll get
For this role based in New York or California the salary range is $151,000-$197,000 USD. Final compensation will reflect your experience, qualifications, and expertise and may vary from the stated range. In addition, you will receive generous equity, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with fully covered premiums, a 401(k) plan, and stipends for wellness and commuting needs. When you or a family member needs time off for illness, you simply take the time you need; we will cover your work and send soup.
