Deliveroo is a fast-growing company operating at the intersection of technology and food, and we are currently looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing our AWS RDS infrastructure while acting as a mentor to our software engineering and analytics departments. We rely on your expertise to guide our teams through complex query and schema design, performance optimization, and general database management. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in either Bangalore or Hyderabad, where you will report directly to an Engineering Manager.
Key outcomes
- Monitor database performance proactively and resolve technical issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with engineers and data professionals to optimize queries, eliminate bottlenecks, and refine schema designs.
- Establish and oversee change control and testing protocols to ensure all database modifications are reviewed and approved.
- Evaluate new data products, services, and standards while planning for the future scalability of our data assets.
- Refine our deployment and development workflows, specifically focusing on improvements like online schema changes.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including troubleshooting playbooks and recovery plans.
- Foster a culture of database expertise across the entire organization.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional experience in database management and engineering.
- Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA within a 24x7 production environment.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL development and performance tuning.
- Strong background in architecting large-scale database platforms in the cloud.
- Deep understanding of Postgres system metrics, optimization strategies, virtualization, and clustered environments.
- Professional proficiency in English.
