At Place Exchange, we are on a mission to transform the out-of-home advertising channel by making it truly programmatic for both buyers and sellers. We are rethinking how media functions in public spaces and building the sophisticated technology to power this change. As digital displays continue to proliferate in cities and venues globally, we are at the forefront of one of the fastest-growing media channels. We invite you to join our team to help us reshape how advertising works in the physical world.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a senior-level position that offers a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work remotely or from our New York City office. You will be instrumental in scaling our digital ad exchange, which is designed to handle billions of transactions, and you will play a key role in defining our technical strategy and roadmap.
Core responsibilities
- Take ownership of shipping features ranging from small updates to large-scale initiatives independently.
- Collaborate with other senior engineers to deliver critical projects while mentoring fellow team members to elevate the platform.
- Help shape our engineering culture by promoting best practices, including rigorous documentation, comprehensive testing, and effective CI/CD processes.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in full-stack software engineering and a passion for building maintainable, large-scale systems. We value candidates who have 4 to 6 years of relevant industry experience and a solid grasp of the following:
- Languages and Frameworks: Proficiency in Python, Django, JavaScript, and React, with experience in gRPC.
- Data and Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Spark and Airflow for ETL and DAG management, as well as AWS Lambda and Kubernetes for application deployment.
- Database Systems: Familiarity with Postgres and other data storage solutions.
- Professional Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent industry experience is also welcomed.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and the communication skills necessary to work effectively across diverse teams and locations.
Compensation and benefits
For candidates based in New York City, the expected salary range for this position is $150,000 to $165,000. Actual compensation is determined during the interview process based on your specific experience and skills. In addition to the base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth:
- Equity compensation and 401k with company match.
- Medical insurance and commuter benefits.
- Generous paid time off, including 20 days of PTO, sick days, and Summer Fridays.
- Flexible hybrid and remote work options.
How to apply
If you are excited about the prospect of building innovative solutions and driving real impact in a fast-growing company, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application to be considered for our interview process, which includes a series of technical and stakeholder discussions designed to help us get to know your skills and experience better.
