At Matterworks, we are focused on creating advanced AI tools that pull meaningful insights from massive biological datasets. Our mission is to open new doors in therapeutic manufacturing, discovery, and development by building large-scale deep learning models that accurately predict the behavior of biological systems. We are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will work in a hybrid capacity alongside scientists, machine learning researchers, and fellow engineers to support our critical AI workloads.
Responsibilities
- Own the full development lifecycle, taking projects from the initial user problem all the way to final value delivery.
- Work closely with our cross-functional scientific team to build and refine transformative products.
- Use feedback from both internal and external stakeholders to iterate on and improve our software solutions.
- Tackle complex technical hurdles and apply pragmatic problem-solving strategies within our fast-paced, early-stage environment.
- Play an active role in shaping our overall technical direction and software architecture.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience building and maintaining data pipelines.
- Direct industry experience within biotechnology, life sciences, biochemistry, or a closely related field.
- Proven proficiency in agile development methodologies and a track record of delivering value through iterative processes.
- Expertise in our core tech stack, including Python, Spark, AWS, EMR, DynamoDB, Postgres, Apache Airflow, and Terraform.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A self-starting attitude that thrives in a startup setting, where curiosity and a passion for solving scientific challenges are more important than rigid processes.
