Back in 2013, we started Splash Financial in Cleveland with a simple but powerful goal: to help our friends and family break free from the weight of student loan debt. Since then, we have grown significantly, helping people manage various forms of debt, including credit card refinancing. We have successfully refinanced over $6 billion in loans through our network of bank and credit union partners. With the backing of investors like Citi Ventures and DST Global, we are building automated loan processing technology that is changing the financial landscape. We remain a team that thinks like a startup, and we are looking for passionate people to join us on this mission.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Clojure Engineer to join our remote-first team. In this role, you will play a vital part in building and scaling the financial technologies that allow us to help more people. You will work within an OKR-driven environment where your contributions directly impact our ability to simplify financial products. We are looking for someone who values technical excellence, writes thoughtful documentation, and approaches complex problems with a constructive, solution-oriented mindset. You will have the chance to mentor others and grow alongside a team that prioritizes both high-quality code and a healthy, collaborative culture.
A day in the life
- You will write clean, well-tested code primarily in Clojure and ClojureScript, while occasionally working with PHP and React.
- You will design and build robust APIs and microservices that allow our platform to scale effectively.
- You will participate in our highly collaborative culture by providing constructive feedback on pull requests and actively engaging with your teammates to solve complex engineering challenges.
Who you are
You are an experienced engineer with at least 5 years of professional programming experience, including at least 2 years working with Clojure and 2 years in a full stack capacity. You have a strong background in building microservices and are comfortable using observability tools to troubleshoot and maintain system health. Beyond your technical skills, you are a clear communicator who values candor and directness. You are someone who enjoys giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, you are comfortable disagreeing and committing, and you are genuinely excited about using technology to help people improve their financial lives. You are proficient in English and ready to thrive in a fully remote environment.
Why you'll love it here
We believe in providing the best for our team so you can do your best work. As part of our commitment to your well-being and professional growth, we offer the following perks:
- The freedom and flexibility of fully remote work.
- A 401(k) plan to help you save for your future.

- Flexible PTO and 9 company holidays.
- Equity in our company so you can share in our success.
- Paid parental leave for both caregivers.
- Essential equipment to ensure you have what you need to succeed.
- Quarterly meet-ups for team bonding and fun.
