PlayVS stands as the premier amateur esports platform across North America. We serve as the central hub where players compete, fans watch matches, and coaches oversee their programs. Our comprehensive platform integrates game data, team management tools, league structures, and tournament scheduling into one seamless experience. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our remote team and help us continue building innovative software that connects our community.

Key outcomes

• Take the lead on designing and building complex backend systems, GraphQL APIs, and new platform features.
• Partner with product managers and designers to translate ideas into functional software.
• Work alongside fellow engineers to improve system performance, scalability, and stability.
• Identify and resolve production issues with efficient, lasting solutions.
• Promote a culture of experimentation and data-driven decision making to prioritize high-impact tasks.
• Maintain high engineering standards by writing clean code, conducting thorough code reviews, and expanding our test coverage.
• Advocate for our users by developing a deep understanding of their specific needs and challenges.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in product development, specifically in delivering scalable and high-performance software.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Node.js and its fundamental principles.
• Proven experience using TypeScript within large-scale development environments.
• Hands-on experience with GraphQL and the Apollo framework.
• A strong focus on customer-centric problem solving.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• A growth-oriented mindset that values testing, analysis, and effective prioritization.
• The ability to work productively within a cross-functional team.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Practical knowledge of containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes.
• A genuine interest in esports, gaming, or education technology.
