Senior Backend Engineer at Ellipsislabs

At Ellipsis Labs, we are a profitable, venture-backed startup based in New York that focuses on creating unique products and infrastructure for the world of decentralized finance. We are the team behind Phoenix, which stands as the premier order book spot exchange on the Solana blockchain. Since our launch in 2023, we have processed over $70 billion in volume, establishing ourselves as a top 10 decentralized exchange. Currently, we are developing Atlas, a blockchain platform designed for verifiable finance. This project aims to merge the speed and performance of traditional financial systems with the inherent transparency of DeFi.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. As an early-stage company, we thrive on the contributions of bright generalists who have the ability to iterate rapidly and ship high-quality code. You will play a vital role in our engineering efforts as we continue to scale our infrastructure and build the future of verifiable finance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable production services that can handle significant increases in query volume beyond our current capacity of thousands of queries per second.
• Design and implement robust monitoring systems capable of tracking performance at the micro-second and nano-second levels.
• Take ownership of major engineering initiatives, such as large-scale real-time data indexing, by managing the entire lifecycle from initial architecture and specification to implementation, testing, and long-term maintenance.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience building and maintaining production-grade software systems, ideally using Rust, C++, or Golang.
• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience working with Unix systems.
• Practical knowledge of cloud infrastructure, with a preference for AWS.
• The ability to make sound technical decisions that align with our broader business goals.
• A high level of agency and a collaborative, team-first mindset, along with a genuine interest in exploring both technical and non-technical challenges.
• A strong passion for the decentralized finance space.
• Prior experience with Solana, quantitative trading, or fintech is considered a plus, as is proficiency in Rust.

Location

This position is based on-site at our office in New York City.
