At Archipelago, we are transforming the commercial property insurance sector through our AI-driven data network. Since our founding in 2018 by industry veterans from Apple and RMS, we have dedicated ourselves to helping the world's largest property brokers and their clients manage risk with precision. We currently support over 500 of the most significant commercial property portfolios globally. Backed by major investors like Scale, Canaan Partners, and Prologis Ventures, we are growing rapidly and looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. This is an on-site role based in our New York or San Francisco offices, where we foster collaborative, co-located engineering clusters.
Key outcomes
- Drive growth in our monthly active users by building and supporting intuitive, customer-focused experiences.
- Collaborate with product management to develop and deploy rapid prototypes in production environments.
- Ensure the long-term health of our platform by maintaining and enhancing the security, architecture, and performance of our existing services.
- Act as a mentor to junior team members and contribute to the technical growth of your entire squad.
- Automate manual data sources to eliminate reliance on external spreadsheets and reduce manual data-fix requests by 20 percent.
- Improve code quality by reducing uncovered lines in our Jobs Service by 20 percent.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience in backend development for enterprise software products.
- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with Golang, alongside a strong background in other backend languages.
- Deep expertise in RESTful APIs, including best practices for versioning and robust error handling.
- Proven experience integrating third-party APIs and working within cloud environments such as AWS.
- Strong proficiency in designing and maintaining data-driven services using relational databases like Postgres.
- Fluency in English and the ability to work on-site in either the New York or San Francisco metro areas.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience developing applications specifically for the insurance industry.
- Practical knowledge of containerization technologies, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with GraphQL.
