At Continuum Industries, we are building Optioneer, an AI-powered platform that is revolutionizing how major infrastructure projects are planned. By helping organizations design everything from hydrogen pipelines to subsea power cables more efficiently and sustainably, we have already supported over 40,000 kilometers of new infrastructure. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing Applications Team in our Edinburgh office and help us scale our technology to meet the demands of our global enterprise clients.

What you bring

As a senior member of our team, you will play a critical role in evolving our data-rich platform as we aim to increase our user base and system reliability by ten times this year. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in the United Kingdom where you will work alongside a diverse group of engineers to build robust, scalable solutions. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Taking full ownership of complex features from the initial design phase through to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Refining our system architecture and code structure to ensure optimal performance as we handle national-scale geospatial data.
• Mentoring fellow team members and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced engineer who is comfortable working with Python or Golang within a microservices environment. You should have a strong grasp of software architecture, Postgres, and cloud infrastructure like AWS. It is important that you have a collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills, as you will frequently coordinate across teams to ensure our product goals are met. We value candidates who have a history of taking responsibility for high-impact features and who are eager to stay updated on emerging technologies. While not required, experience with tools like Django, Kubernetes, or ORM frameworks will be considered a significant advantage.

What we offer
