The role
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing team on a full-time basis. This is a senior-level position where you will take on significant ownership across our technical stack. You will operate in an environment that values ambiguity as an opportunity for innovation, working closely with our team to understand the diverse use cases we support. This role is offered as a hybrid position, with a strong preference for candidates based in San Francisco or Washington, D.C.
Core responsibilities
- Design and scale our platform to manage terabytes of data ingested from various sources.
- Develop sophisticated features such as complex data sharing models, real-time data stream processing, and high-performance search query optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate product needs into reliable, production-grade software components.
Skills and experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience working within cross-functional software development teams.
- Proven ability to navigate large codebases and architect distributed systems.
- A history of shipping and iterating on production-grade software, whether in a professional setting or through open-source contributions.
- Proficiency with our core technology stack, including Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Kafka, AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, data management, and system architecture.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Compensation and benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $215,000. In addition to base compensation, we provide the following benefits:
