Senior Backend Engineer at Commencis

We are currently looking for a talented Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will work closely with one of our prestigious clients, a major bank in the EMEA region, to drive their digital transformation. Commencis has over twenty years of experience in software engineering, experience design, and cloud technologies. Key outcomes

• Design and build secure, reusable, and well-tested code while following industry best practices.
• Develop high-availability, low-latency, and performant applications.
• Create well-defined APIs to support user-facing elements built by our frontend teams.
• Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Participate in and lead regular code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
• Proactively research, learn, and integrate emerging technologies into our projects.
• Maintain flexibility for travel at regular intervals and adhere to a Sunday through Thursday work week.

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in designing and building backend systems.
• Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Strong technical skills in Java, Spring Boot or Quarkus, Hibernate, and Maven.
• Solid experience working with Microservices Architecture.
• Competence in writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for applications.
• Experience with DevOps practices and tools such as Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write complex SQL queries and integrate applications with databases like PostgreSQL.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and experience managing stakeholder relationships.
• Practical experience with TDD automation and SCRUM or Agile methodologies.

Preferred qualifications

• Working knowledge of AWS and OpenShift.
• Experience with distributed systems, concurrent programming, and large-scale stream processing.
• A passionate focus on CI/CD practices.
• Active contributions to Open Source projects.
