Senior Backend Engineer at Runway

What is this role?

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a remote position open to candidates located anywhere. As a senior member of our engineering team, you will be instrumental in shaping our technical direction and building the core infrastructure that powers our platform. We are in the early stages of our journey, which means you will have a significant impact on both our product architecture and the culture of our growing company.

What will you do?

• Design and implement robust backend infrastructure that allows our platform to scale effectively while meeting the evolving needs of our customers.
• Collaborate closely with our design and product management teams to plan and execute core product features that solve complex business planning challenges.
• Contribute to the growth of our engineering team by helping to attract, mentor, and hire exceptional talent while setting a high standard for our technical culture.

What makes you a great fit?

You should have at least 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering, with a proven ability to build scalable, high-performance systems. We value engineers who possess an ownership mindset and take genuine pride in their craft. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you can balance rapid iteration with long-term stability.

While we are looking for strong generalist backend skills, you will stand out if you have experience with the following:

• Professional proficiency in Go.
• Deep knowledge of DevOps practices and infrastructure management.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform.
• A history of leading technical initiatives within large web applications.
• Fluency in English to facilitate clear communication within our remote-first team.

We offer a competitive base salary range of $190,000 to $230,000. In addition to your base pay, you will receive:
